Summary

A practical approach to creating wealth-based on the established principles of ancient Jewish wisdom-made accessible to people of all backgrounds

The ups and downs of the economy prove Rabbi Daniel Lapin's famous principle that the more things change, the more we need to depend upon the things that never change。 There's no better source for both practical and spiritual financial wisdom than the time-tested knowledge found in the ancient Jewish faith and its culture。 In the Second Edition of Thou Shall Prosper, Lapin offers a practical approach to creating wealth based on the established principles of ancient Jewish wisdom。 This book details the ten permanent principles that never change, the ten commandments of making money if you will, and explores the economic and philosophic vision of business that has been part of Jewish culture for centuries。 The book's focus is on making accessible to individuals of all backgrounds, the timeless truths that Jews have used for centuries to excel in business。

Outlines ten fundamental commandments relating to business and money Includes insights that will increase your potential for creating wealth, no matter what your faith or background may be Blends contemporary business stories and Lapin's own business experiences with the wisdom of the Torah and Talmudic prescriptions This Second Edition provides new examples, especially of Internet related business opportunities。 In addition, each chapter highlights specific action steps that can lead to wealth opportunities in both difficult economic times and periods of prosperity。

Rabbi Lapin is a truly great story teller。 No book has better explained how to have a proper relationship with money。 I return to this book every few years and i would say it is a great starting point for anyone starting out in business or in self-improvement。

I am so glad I finally read this book! This has given me a perspective change I have desperately needed in my life!

In this book, the author, which is also a rabbi, explained many misconception and myths about Jewish people, especially in terms of Jewish prosperity。 But here also the author explained ten things usually Jewish do so they have prosperity above the average。

For a man than likes to read this was a “struggle read” for me。 I was anxious to read it because it was not only highly recommended by several friends but also by Dave Ramsey, however I was disappointed in it。 It has some great truths and I highlighted as well underlined a lot in the book, but it wasn’t what I was expecting。 I honestly don’t know what I was expecting but it didn’t deliver like I thought it would。 He has several interesting stories throughout the book and those kept me reading。 I For a man than likes to read this was a “struggle read” for me。 I was anxious to read it because it was not only highly recommended by several friends but also by Dave Ramsey, however I was disappointed in it。 It has some great truths and I highlighted as well underlined a lot in the book, but it wasn’t what I was expecting。 I honestly don’t know what I was expecting but it didn’t deliver like I thought it would。 He has several interesting stories throughout the book and those kept me reading。 I will say from a spiritual standpoint I came away with a different view of “prospering”。 Not from a “prosperity gospel” standpoint but from a “Kingdom minded” prospering standpoint。 It was a three out of five for me。 。。。more

Such a chewy book packed with spiritual and businesses advice。 Because of it's contents it took a while to read but will have to read it in print rather than listening。 A lot of good teachings within。 Such a chewy book packed with spiritual and businesses advice。 Because of it's contents it took a while to read but will have to read it in print rather than listening。 A lot of good teachings within。 。。。more

I cannot express this fact enough!!About 18 months ago I bought the hardcover version of this book, got distracted, put it down and never picked it back up。 Then last week I decided to use one of my credits in my Audible Subscription to finish up the book by listening to the rest。 Am I glad I did! It seems in my Christian upbringing that I was exposed to two teachings in the church。 Teaching number 1 was how BADDDDDD money is and how you should avoid it at all costs (except you must make enough to survive and maybe have a little left over for charity。) The second teaching was all about prosperity through giving to the church and living for God。 Do this and you will prosper! No, I am not jaded or cynical, and I know there are other Christian approaches to money。 The two listed are the most common extremes, and both are severely flawed in my opinion。 And although this book hints towards certain elements taught in the Christian church (and why not since Christianity is merely a sect of the more ancient Judaism), but Rabbi Lapin goes so much deeper into what the ancient sages taught about money, work, and so much more。 Have you ever wondered why Jewish people seem to have great wealth? Maybe it is because of how they are taught to view money。 In this book you will learn why and how money is actually spiritual, how your television affects how you view corporations, why you may fear wealth, why you should never set retirement date goals, how to live comfortably, and how to actually give to charity (as a Bible command)。This book has so much to offer。 In it I believe you will find a formula to LIVE, and live well! To GIVE, and give well! To WORK, and love doing it! This book will actually SHOCK you, even if you are already wealthy。 Rabbi Lapin offers much to young employees as well as old retirees。 GET THIS BOOK! 。。。more

Sound advice。 I picked up the book because Dan Kennedy suggested it。 It provides several concepts that are in line with my philosophy and that already have helped in my business career。 Some things I had the chance to discover them when I lived in Israel。 But spare me the religious stuff, please。All the proof for Lapin's ideas seem to come from the Jewish Bible, and since I'm used to essays based on scientific experiments and/or business anecdotes, this is refreshing。 But only a bit。 I find the Sound advice。 I picked up the book because Dan Kennedy suggested it。 It provides several concepts that are in line with my philosophy and that already have helped in my business career。 Some things I had the chance to discover them when I lived in Israel。 But spare me the religious stuff, please。All the proof for Lapin's ideas seem to come from the Jewish Bible, and since I'm used to essays based on scientific experiments and/or business anecdotes, this is refreshing。 But only a bit。 I find the only flaw of this 10 commandments is that they are supported by a very, very long list of stories。 Too many anecdotes and parables for my taste。 I guess they could be essential to persuade an average church or synagogue-goer, but not me。 I'm already in business, I am a creative person and I see myself not as a mere consumer。 Nonetheless, I find some of the most counterintuitive commandments very useful。 I think they could benefit anyone who feels stuck, personally and professionally。It's not about making money per se, rather than being useful to others and happier。 I suggest to read the book in this order:1) look at the index, and then look at it again2) read the whole book through chapter headings 3) take notes (main ideas and favorite quotes)4) re-read main chapters (I did, but jumping over some of the stories) 。。。more

"Thou Shalt Prosper" is an excellent treatise on how to view oneself in the world that God placed us in, both economically, financially, and spiritually。 Rabbi Lapin's work is very readable, with excellent anecdotes and good humor to drive home his points。 "Thou Shalt Prosper" is an excellent treatise on how to view oneself in the world that God placed us in, both economically, financially, and spiritually。 Rabbi Lapin's work is very readable, with excellent anecdotes and good humor to drive home his points。 。。。more

I went into this book with low expectations and a recommendation from a top performing salesman。I finished the book leaving with bundles of insight, wisdom, and actionable steps derived from how Jews have a disproportionate amount of prosperity。

This book is about wisdom and relationship。 The rest (success, prosperity, cash flow and the list goes on) is only a by-product of applying the wisdom of ancient Jewish practice。 Must read!

As a business owner, Lapin's book is exactly what I needed to help me change my perspective on earning money。 The Ten Commandments are practical, and based on Jewish traditions and the Torah。 Regardless of your spiritual/religious beliefs, this is a book that all people in business should read。 As a business owner, Lapin's book is exactly what I needed to help me change my perspective on earning money。 The Ten Commandments are practical, and based on Jewish traditions and the Torah。 Regardless of your spiritual/religious beliefs, this is a book that all people in business should read。 。。。more

I learned a whole lot from this book and do not regret reading it。 It was mentioned in True riches by Jeff Lestz for anyone interested in more on the subject from a different point of view。

I recommend reading this book。 A lot of it talks about being in the right mindset。 Realizing that money isn’t bad and if you have this mindset that money is the root of all evil then you’re never going to get any。 Money means you’ve helped and provided value to others。 If you don’t have any money, who have you helped? There’s a lot to this book, but I definitely recommend reading it。

Rick

This book is the cure for the poisoned attitude many have toward work and money。 If you read it and practice, you and those around you will be financially and spiritually richer。

Quite a long book but I still found it interesting to read。 I don't agree quite 100% with everything it says but there are a lot of great lessons in it。 Ancient wisdom explained in a way that is easy to umderstand。 Quite a long book but I still found it interesting to read。 I don't agree quite 100% with everything it says but there are a lot of great lessons in it。 Ancient wisdom explained in a way that is easy to umderstand。 。。。more

LOVE LOVE LOVE this book! I have read it three times and am reading it aloud to the kids right now。 Every time I read it, I get more out of it。 Business tips, life tips, and even tips on how to become a better person that are quite practical。 I love this book because I feel like "we" as a society, have gotten a good brainwashing from Hollywood on how capitalism is bad, making money is bad, being productive is bad。。。but only in tiny doses, until the point where volunteering/good, working/bad。。。th LOVE LOVE LOVE this book! ReedIII Quick Review: Excellent business and life principles taken from the Bible and reflected in the Jewish culture。 This book is as good as the promotions and Dave Ramsey recommendation。 From a Biblical perspective money, wealth, business are a good thing。

Rabbi Lapin was born into a prestigious Torah family and a Jewish scholar。 At one point, he was appointed as a counselor to President Bush。 In this book, he talks about money matters from the perspective of Torah! There are three key words in order to be successful 1) Learn 2) Understand and 3) Practice。 In order to improve myself, I must put effort and invest in myself。 A 75 years old Harvard study reveals the most important factor in human happiness is the relationship, mainly from close family, friends and social connections。 In order to be successful in business, relationships with people are integral。 Trust and characters are the best marketing tools and they are the GOLDEN STANDARD! Networking with lots of people and paying attention to each person; then establishing a good relationship with each individual。 Think of a way how you can be helpful to others! Practice predictability: never impose your mood swings on your associates and customers。 Standardization is another important factor。 Before Holiday Inn, lodgers never knew what to expect from local lodgings; however the Holiday Inn hotel chain introduced a certain level of expectation of the hotel and people started travelling far to seek for that standard service。 I can completely relate。 Once I started travelling extensively, I kept on returning to the Hampton Inn because of the reasonable price, cleanness, friendly staff members and comfortable beds。 Eventually, I became a gold member of Hilton, although now my preference is the Embassy Suits :-) Four motivational factors in personal growth and success of the business 1) Alway and continuously seek wisdom and knowledge 2) Acquire power to influence others 3) Financial freedom and 4) Respect from others! Wealth is a result, not the purpose itself。 If you study the Bible (Torah), there are many examples of “Prosperity” ~ Gen 2:12 : The gold of that land is good~ During the passover, God commanded Israelites slaves to request gold and silver from their Egyptian oppressors~ Gen : Yours is the earth and everything in it。 ~ Many biblical figures had achieved enormous wealth and they were the results from the intimate and interesting relationship with God and people~ King David: First get rid of bad habits then replace them with good habits。 ~ Making money is much harder to do if deep down you suspect it to be a morally reprehensible activity! ~ For better or not, humans are holistic: You must believe that business is noble undertaking!” Let them know your expectation자녀들의 결혼을 도와라독립할수있도록 일을 가르쳐라수영을 가르쳐라 (세상의 어려운 소용돌이 속에서 살아남을수 있는 기술)t유대인들은 원하는 바를 얻으려면, 그것을 이미 쟁취한듯 행동한다。 (Fake it until you make it!) 。。。more

I've actually read this book twice this year。 I read everything but the last 2 chapters by myself early in the year and then I read it again with Jon over the past couple months - not because it was intriguing reading and I couldn't put it down。 It was slow and tedious and dragged on。 But I think there are some good things in this book and mostly it helped me think about money。 The title especially - we are meant to prosper! I liked the stories in the book and I did learn things。 I've actually read this book twice this year。 I read everything but the last 2 chapters by myself early in the year and then I read it again with Jon over the past couple months - not because it was intriguing reading and I couldn't put it down。 It was slow and tedious and dragged on。 But I think there are some good things in this book and mostly it helped me think about money。 The title especially - we are meant to prosper!
